BRIDGEWATER

Located in Somerset County, Bridgewater Township is popular with New York City commuters who use the Bridgewater Station on New Jersey Transit’s Raritan Valley Line or Interstate 78 to commute to New York City. Until recently, Bridgewater was know as a farming town, but in the 1970’s residents from larger cities such as Plainfield and Newark started to migrate to Bridgewater. The township is now a fairly developed suburban community, with few traces of its rural past still evident. Bridgewater is now Somerset County’s second-most populous municipality after Franklin Township. Incorporated in 1749, Bridgewater is one of the New Jersey’s first 104 townships. Early links to British settlers are evidenced from origins of the township’s name: Bridgewater in Somerset, England. Housing options in Bridgewater offer a wide variety of sizes, prices and architectural styles.
