TEWKSBURY

Tewksbury Township is a township located in Hunterdon County, NJ and is located within the New York Metropolitan Area. Tewksbury was divided from Lebanon Township, and by Royal patent, became a township on March 11, 1755. The name, Tewksbury, is believed to have originated from a connection with Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, England and the two townships established a sister city relationship in 2003. Small villages within Tewksbury Township include Oldwick, Mountainville, Cokesbury, and Pottersville, each having an historic district listed on the National Register. Many of the old homes and stores along Oldwick's Main Street date back over two centuries.
